The richly layered impasto texture evokes clouds, air, and the overlapping quality of early light, slowly dissolving the boundary between the human figure and the natural world around it. The golden lines that move through the work are inspired by the Japanese tradition of kintsugi (金継ぎ) — the art of mending broken pottery with gold. In Series I, kintsugi was a symbol of transforming wounds and memories into beauty.
