五継 凪

The name "Gokei" carries a meaning close to my heart — it speaks of inheriting something from each of the five members of my family, and passing it forward in a shape that is my own. My work explores the seasons and nature of Japan, stillness, negative space, and the emotions that quietly linger inside a person. Rather than paintings where everything is understood at a glance, I want to create pieces where something remains with you after you've sat with them for a while. I do use AI as one of my creative tools, but my aim is not to produce images that look "AI-made." Composition, meaning, color, motif, the reason a work deserves to exist — I think through all of it myself, and I see each piece through until it stands on its own as a work by Gokei Nagi. Not something that speaks loudly, but something that quietly stays.
