This piece is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi embraces lack and loneliness, the quiet depth and imperfection found in simple things. It is a uniquely Japanese sensibility and philosophy — one that discovers beauty, value, and inner richness in the passage of time and the changes it brings. Wabi speaks to an inward richness of spirit. Sabi speaks to an outward beauty born of age and weathering. With wabi-sabi as my theme, and wrestling with AI along the way, I created this still life: an aged tea bowl, half-wilted wild flowers, and a moss-covered pebble arranged on unbleached washi paper, composed around the gentle bleed of ink, the fresh green of moss, and quiet, restrained negative space. If this work manages to touch something in even one person who sees it, I would be truly glad.
High-quality giclée printing using 12-color pigment inks and 0.35mm fine art paper. Faithfully reproduces the texture and brushstrokes of the original work, with lightfastness of approximately 200 years.
