Nijimi (にじみ) I paint the unremarkable objects that fill everyday life. Tea cups, sake flasks, teapots. A single camellia branch, or a piece of seasonal fruit, placed quietly beside them. Not a special moment, but the calm, recurring rhythms of ordinary time — expressed through the ink grain and gentle fading of risograph printmaking. It all started with my series "Daily Still Lifes," printed in just three colors. I find that working with a limited palette reveals something essential about the way objects simply exist. Nijimi — にじみ. It means the moment when ink seeps into paper and edges softly blur into one another. That is the name I chose for my work.
