"River of the Underworld" Snow falls in silence, burying the earth— and above it flows a river that holds the breath of the dead. The water is cold, black, wordless, and within its depths stands a presence that points to where you are going. A specter. Its robe is not mere cloth— but a sea of hair risen from the earth itself, reaching down to the riverbed, stirring the dark. It is black, and yet transparent— and it is that very translucence that hints at the world beyond. To your eyes, it may look like a monster. With fangs, claws, and the gleam of its gaze, like a demon wrapped in the smell of blood. But it is not simply a "guide." It is, rather, a mirror for the one who dared to ask. The specter is the shadow cast upon the depths of your heart. Its form shifts depending on what you call the "death" you face. If your soul is steeped in loneliness, its black hair envelops you like mist. Then the specter reaches out a quiet hand to the one who weeps. Or— if you carry the weight of "sin"— the specter drives its fangs into your shoulder, and like a flower left to rot, sinks alongside you. The river of the underworld offers no sound even in its flow. In silence and deep black, it waits for someone to speak the word "end." And the specter— merely stands. Upon its back is carved the map of your fate. ◈ Artist's Note I painted a river held in silence—buried beneath snow that falls without end, without ceasing. It is the threshold between the living and the dead, the first place a departing soul sets foot. At the center of the composition stands a single specter, motionless in the current. In rendering this figure, I wanted to move beyond the image of a being simply draped in black cloth. Instead, I sought a quality in which long hair trailing down to the ground becomes the robe itself—as though darkness had taken on form. In the digital processing, I gave the black silhouette a faint transparency: not a flat, filled-in black, but tonal gradations through which the scene behind ever so slightly bleeds. This conveys that the specter does not belong to the physical world, but stands at a boundary that is not of this earth. The fine noise scattered across the entire image, and the texture of drifting snow, are deliberate efforts to blur the viewer's sight. By softening the contours so that the figure dissolves into the deep shadows of the background, I sought to express the paradox at the heart of the specter—its lack of solid substance, and yet the inescapable weight of its presence. The accompanying poem makes clear that this specter is no mere fearsome creature. It is a mirror that reflects the interior of the one who gazes upon it—offering quiet salvation to the lonely soul, and stern judgment to the one burdened by sin. I shaped the rhythm and resonance of the words so that the cold black of the river and the swell of the specter's hair might summon different visions in different hearts. Visual silence, and the story of transformation written into the poem. In the "ma" (間—the negative space, the pause between things) that lies between them: how does your own fate come to be reflected? That question is what I have folded into this single print. ◈ Edition This work is a limited-edition giclée print from the Mystique In Enigma series. About Limited Editions
This is a Limited Edition produced in only 1 pieces worldwide. Each piece carries a unique edition number, with authenticity proven both digitally and physically.

Each print carries a unique NFC tag. Its tamper-evident structure breaks if removed, so it cannot be transferred to another work.

Artwork details, edition number, and ownership history are recorded on the blockchain, preserving provenance and ownership over the long term.

A certificate bearing the artist's signature is included. Along with the print itself, it leaves you with proof of authentic ownership.
Unlike traditional proof that relies on a handwritten signature alone, linking a physical NFC tag with a digital certification record delivers tamper-proof, far more reliable proof of authenticity.
Authenticity is certified using "Startrail," a blockchain certification platform operated by Startbahn, Inc.
