"'The Scorching Root Within'" I am always enveloped in the smell of earth and rubble. It was the same when I was alive. The weight of expectations society had laid down for me, the crushing pressure of failures I had been made to endure time and again — they were a boulder-like mass that smothered me whole. This soiled part of myself, the part I never wanted anyone to see. And yet I was clawing desperately to live. Perhaps back then I believed that simply being "strong" was the only proof of my existence. Especially to keep up the face he expected of me. Even as I smiled beside him, I was quietly nurturing something red deep inside — like a root pressing through the earth below. In that suffocating darkness, my will to live refused to wither. And before I knew it, I was here. Just as a fiery plant pushes through the edge of rubble, only my most essential self is trying to rise from this stagnant space. Carrying those memories with me, I am still here… Pulsing across ashen skin — a dull heat, and the smell of soil. The weight of sunken rubble stacks itself against my shoulders, and the world is monochrome. Yet what spills through the crack is a blazing crimson will. The inner flame I show to no one. ◈ Artist's Note This work is an attempt to portray the life force hidden within myself and the immense pressure that surrounds it. By unifying the entire canvas in monochrome tones and burying it in deep shadow and an earthy texture, I gave visual form to the weight of "normalcy" and "expectation" imposed by society. The subject's outline is deliberately softened and allowed to dissolve into the surrounding darkness, expressing the sensation of one's own existence being blurred and erased by outside pressure. I intentionally left the visual focal point behind the figure. Along the lower edge of the frame, I introduced a motif of plants tinged with a burning crimson — as though something were growing up from the ground itself. This carries the message that no matter how dark things become, no matter how deeply one is buried under rubble, the essential life force never disappears. This visual contrast — monochrome suppression against a fierce crimson will — is precisely what I most wanted to depict. In the digital processing, I made adjustments to bring this contrast forward: preserving detail in the shadows while pulling the overall tone down into stillness. I also layered in a clinging grain and faint noise texture to capture the very atmosphere of this "stagnant space." The poem is deeply interwoven with this visual experience. The flow of words — "the weight of expectations society had laid down for me, the crushing pressure of failures I had been made to endure" — mirrors exactly the heaviness of the rubble that drifts across the entire canvas. Through this poem, I am in dialogue with a past self who believed that "being strong" was a form of proof. In particular, the phrase "the inner flame I show to no one" speaks to a primal heat nurtured somewhere apart from the effort of maintaining a strong face for the outside world. It is this phrase that led me to introduce crimson as an explicit color in the work — an attempt to portray the same phenomenon through both image and language, each from a different angle. Rather than explaining everything, I want to leave only this crimson will spilling through the crack visible — so that the viewer might sense that they, too, are harboring something deep within. The work and the poem call out to each other, yet never fully become one. I believe that very distance is proof of being alive. ◈ Edition This work is a limited-edition fine art giclée print from the Mystique In Enigma series. About Limited Editions
This is a Limited Edition produced in only 1 pieces worldwide. Each piece carries a unique edition number, with authenticity proven both digitally and physically.

Each print carries a unique NFC tag. Its tamper-evident structure breaks if removed, so it cannot be transferred to another work.

Artwork details, edition number, and ownership history are recorded on the blockchain, preserving provenance and ownership over the long term.

A certificate bearing the artist's signature is included. Along with the print itself, it leaves you with proof of authentic ownership.
Unlike traditional proof that relies on a handwritten signature alone, linking a physical NFC tag with a digital certification record delivers tamper-proof, far more reliable proof of authenticity.
Authenticity is certified using "Startrail," a blockchain certification platform operated by Startbahn, Inc.
