SERIES — DISTANT AIR DISTANT AIR is a ten-work series that treats distant seas, lakes, hills, cliffs, and mountains as layers of light and atmosphere. Rather than describing each landscape in detail, the works are built from broad color fields, scraped surfaces, impasto, and weathered block-like marks. From a distance, the images resolve into recognizable places; up close, color and material texture become the subject. Cream and pale blue form a recurring foundation, while coral, lavender, turquoise, ochre, and other accents shift from work to work, giving the series color without losing its quiet character. ABOUT RITSUKO NISHIMURA Ritsuko Nishimura creates semi-abstract works centered on light, air, stillness, open space, and material texture.
