One piece from a series of floral motifs painted in the style of ukiyo-e and shin-hanga (the early 20th-century "new print" movement). A full, open peony and a small, tight bud. A diagonal sweep of negative space runs between them. Bloom and bud — two moments in time sharing the same frame. Not every petal, leaf, or bud is filled solid; in places, a soft cream outline is left deliberately bare. The palette is rooted in traditional Japanese colors, so the print sits naturally in Japandi or Japanese-modern interiors — at home alongside solid-wood furniture, undyed linen, and rough-glazed ceramic ware. The tones were chosen to feel settled and unhurried in that kind of company. Hung in an entryway or living room, the print brings a quiet stillness to the wall.
