"The Forest of Fog and Snow" The snow blanketing the ground beneath the mist held a whiteness like someone's memories slowly dissolving. Bare, branchless trees stood in silence, and only the light slipping between them told me this was a place that belonged to neither world. I lingered there and asked what they were waiting for. The word "waiting" sits uneasily in a place like this — yet the path back to where one belongs, and the lantern for those who wander, lay sleeping together beneath the weight of the snow. To describe the scene… White snow fills the ground, and the shadows of bare trees stretch high into the sky. Mist settles in, and the world grows hazy, still as though someone had just wiped away their tears. ◈ Artist's Note This work depicts a forest poised on the boundary between this world and the next. At the center of the frame stand dark, branchless trees. Because light filters through from behind them, they do not read as flat silhouettes — instead they emerge through contrasts of light and shadow. To the left, a row of bare trees carries a faint warmth of golden light; to the right and into the distance, everything fades into a cool, bluish dimness. A thin veil of mist drifts across the entire scene, and with it, the sense of depth gradually dissolves. The ground is buried under snow. Because the snow's surface photographs softly and out of focus, no sharp outlines rise from underfoot. That indistinctness was intentional — a deliberate blurring of the line between reality and illusion. Layering a soft-focus treatment into the digital process made the whole scene feel like a fragment of a half-remembered memory. I titled the work "The Forest of Fog and Snow" — a name meant to evoke a place on the threshold between worlds. There is no fixed narrative here. I wanted to leave room for each viewer to bring their own thoughts and feelings, so I offered no explanation. Where light reaches, the tones are warm gold; where it doesn't, they fall into cool, bluish shadow. That difference in temperature expresses the contrast between the world of the living and the world beyond. Individual snowflakes are visible in the snow's surface. A texture like fine grain or noise rises throughout, lending the piece an atmosphere close to something actually witnessed and photographed. With this work, rather than spelling anything out, I wanted to create a space where viewers can layer their own memories and emotions.
