"The Gray Promise" On a night when the winter storm beats against the windowpanes, I stand in this crumbling corridor, straining to catch the sound of your footsteps. A place where the scent of roses once drifted and the hem of a dress whispered across the floor — now only cold dust and silence settle, heavy and still. The dark curse my father summoned, darkness invited in to steal away love, buried our promise beneath the rubble. Even my screams dissolved into the wind, my body slowly merging into the walls of this mansion — yet my heart has not moved since that day. "I am still waiting." That single phrase became the chain binding my soul, and I stand frozen in a prison called eternity. There is no one left where my gaze falls, yet I still search for your shadow at the edge of my sight. In this crumbling mansion, I hold my breath, keeping a promise that will never be fulfilled. ◈ Artist's Note Eleanor, the youngest daughter of a once-wealthy family, had made a promise with her forbidden lover to meet in secret at the mansion. But on a winter's night, the family performed a forbidden ritual that brought a curse upon the house, and she perished in terror. In her final moments, the force of her will to "keep waiting" and the despair of having been unable to save the one she loved bound her soul to this place. She drifts still, trapped in the hours of a promise with no end. This work portrays the soul of Eleanor — the youngest daughter who died believing in a reunion with her beloved, within a cursed mansion on a winter's night. Her figure stands in a narrow corridor where light and shadow intersect; her outline slightly blurred, yet the silhouette of her dress seen from behind lingers on, fragile and unmistakable. The entire composition is built on a desaturated palette of monochromatic tones, with contrast deliberately subdued throughout. The boundary between the figure's shadow and the wall behind her is softened until the two nearly dissolve into one another — a visual expression of her being "bound to this place." While a gentle blur softens parts of her outline, the silhouette of the dress along her back and the flow of her hair are intentionally sharpened, so that a sense of will — "still waiting" — remains legible in her form. From the chest downward in particular, the layering of shadow and light creates the feeling that her body is melting into the wall. In the background, the structural lines of windowframes and columns appear slightly skewed, interrupted by glitch-like discontinuities that suggest the passage of time through a "crumbling mansion." These distortions are tuned to emerge naturally at the transition from light areas into shadow, conveying visually that the entire scene exists in an unstable state. In keeping with the poem's phrases "holding my breath" and "a promise that will never be fulfilled," the figure's posture remains absolutely still. Her gaze is directed forward, yet the composition is arranged so that a sense of emptiness — the absence of anyone there — lingers in the space ahead of her. The right side of the frame is left with generous negative space, emphasizing the quiet where her solitude and the weight of time overlap. In this work, rather than noise or digital glitch, the focus rests on "the boundary between light and shadow," "the softening of outlines," and "the distortion of the background" — and through these choices, the presence of a soul that is bound, keeping a promise without end, is made visible. Throughout the process, by restraining detail in the darker areas and allowing only the lighter passages to stand out, I worked to ensure the entire image holds an atmosphere suffused with silence and cold. ◈ Edition This work is a limited-edition giclée print from the Mystique In Enigma series. ◈ Keywords ghost / promise / winter / mansion / silhouette / decay / silence / longing / curse / memory

About Limited Editions
This is a Limited Edition produced in only 1 pieces worldwide. Each piece carries a unique edition number, with authenticity proven both digitally and physically.

Each print carries a unique NFC tag. Its tamper-evident structure breaks if removed, so it cannot be transferred to another work.

Artwork details, edition number, and ownership history are recorded on the blockchain, preserving provenance and ownership over the long term.

A certificate bearing the artist's signature is included. Along with the print itself, it leaves you with proof of authentic ownership.
Unlike traditional proof that relies on a handwritten signature alone, linking a physical NFC tag with a digital certification record delivers tamper-proof, far more reliable proof of authenticity.
Authenticity is certified using "Startrail," a blockchain certification platform operated by Startbahn, Inc.
