"Echoes of the Threshold" The outline of a shadow dissolving into the wall Frozen silence drapes itself like a garment She stands still, holding time in suspension Her fingertips graze the lingering scent of a distant day A voice that never arrives — like sand scattered into the air Softly tracing the layered sediment of memory Searching for a gaze that might turn back From the far side of the boundary line Seeking nothing more than the faintest trace of warmth ◈ Artist's Note A woman stands motionless before a wall. Whether she belongs to this world or is a wandering presence that has drifted in from somewhere else entirely — I painted her deliberately so that no answer is given. Only the bare fact of her being there asserts itself, sharp and clear within the frost-locked silence. For her, the wall ahead is not a boundary that signals an end. It is an "unfinished continuation" — a place where promises once made with someone, and precious fragments of memory left behind, are still tenuously connected. What I wanted to express is that what she carries inside is not simple grief, but an afterimage (yoin — the resonance that lingers after something is gone) that refuses to fade, and a desperate wish for someone to turn around, just once, and acknowledge that she is there. Visually, I deliberately blurred the figure's edges, letting her dissolve into the background to emphasize the wavering of her threshold. A coarse grain and texture laid across the entire frame conjures a hard, airless silence — as though the atmosphere itself has frozen solid. I kept the tonal contrast intentionally restrained, preserving the midtone gradations while sinking the figure's silhouette deep into shadow. Light is positioned to skim past her periphery, creating the visual impression that her very presence is rising out of the background — or emerging, slowly, from within a fog.
