"The Forest of the Black Knights" The Forest of the Black Knights — where a silver-white mist swallows everything whole — is a realm of silence that lies beyond the threshold. Slender, blade-like trees cleave the sky, and beneath your feet, nameless snow has been falling and settling for an age. I drew that cold deep into my lungs and stepped onto the forbidden path. Two shadows waited ahead. They wore human shapes, yet their edges dissolved into the mist, and they stood utterly still, draped in black that would not move. Were they looking at my face — or at the faded residue of all the memories I carry on my back? Whatever lies at the end of the road they have sworn to guard, I could not resist the quiet pressure that pressed in around me, and I walked forward as though pulled by something unseen. In verse, the scene unfolds like this… The shadows breathe between the trees A blade of light falls across the tracks left at my feet When I looked up, on a snow-covered path ruled by silence, two figures in black stood waiting The one on the right holds a promise of wind in his left hand The one on the left carries an hourglass of futures in his eyes Only those who know where this forest ends are permitted to walk this road The path does not break, yet fear has taken my voice Only cold clings to my skin There is no reason to keep watch over a road no one should pass And yet — something may exist on the other side of the mist The voice of the wind brushed my ear and whispered, "Do not turn back now" I walk on This road is calling my name ◈ Artist's Note From the moment I stepped into the forest, the air felt cold and heavy, as if the shadows of the trees were already falling across the ground. Light filtered in through narrow gaps, and I composed the scene so that only those slivers seemed to float up white against the darkness. Mist fills the background, softening the foreground and midground to press the depth further back. The two figures in black are placed at the center of the frame. I kept their edges very slightly soft, letting them melt into the surrounding trees and fog. They are not pure silhouettes — subtle shading lives inside them, giving them weight and presence. This draws the viewer's eye toward the pair while simultaneously evoking the stillness and solitude of beings who guard without end. For the light, I applied strong highlights to the sky and upper canopy, then held the snow-covered ground below in low saturation, unifying the whole in cool tones. The effect deepens the feeling that the entire forest is a realm of silence beyond the threshold. Edge blurring was applied selectively to the two figures alone, in keeping with the signature MIE theme that these presences are, in essence, "things that cannot quite be seen." A faint layer of noise was added to the background trees to suggest visually blurred outlines and a subtle sense of decay, amplifying the silence and loneliness of the scene. Snow spreads across the lower portion of the frame in white. I adjusted the contrast there specifically to make it stand out, creating a visual anchor through its contrast with the surrounding darkness. Where shadow falls at the viewer's feet like a blade of light, I varied local brightness and density to leave a sense of "movement" and "lingering resonance" within the overall stillness of the image. The poem is structured to visually complement what happens inside the forest. Metaphors such as "a promise of wind," "an hourglass," and "calling my name" deepen the mystery and narrative weight of the work. While making it, I was conscious of the poem's own aftertaste, and deliberately tuned the entire frame to hold "a quiet pressure within the silence." ◈ Edition This work is a limited-edition giclee print from the Mystique In Enigma series. ◈ Keywords forest / black knights / mist / winter / snow / mystery / silhouettes / atmosphere / monochrome / ethereal / guardian / path

About Limited Editions
This is a Limited Edition produced in only 1 pieces worldwide. Each piece carries a unique edition number, with authenticity proven both digitally and physically.

Each print carries a unique NFC tag. Its tamper-evident structure breaks if removed, so it cannot be transferred to another work.

Artwork details, edition number, and ownership history are recorded on the blockchain, preserving provenance and ownership over the long term.

A certificate bearing the artist's signature is included. Along with the print itself, it leaves you with proof of authentic ownership.
Unlike traditional proof that relies on a handwritten signature alone, linking a physical NFC tag with a digital certification record delivers tamper-proof, far more reliable proof of authenticity.
Authenticity is certified using "Startrail," a blockchain certification platform operated by Startbahn, Inc.
