The motif is the breathtaking emerald-green waters of Sengafuchi — a sacred pool in the Ojiro River Gorge, fed by the headwaters of Kaikoma-ga-take in the Southern Japanese Alps. Drawing on the legend of Kaikoma-ga-take and the divine steed Amatsu Hayakoma, I painted the white Pegasus of Ojiro alongside the Dragon God enthroned within the pool's depths. Three dragon deities, the celestial horse, and a lone knight together embody the five great elements — earth, water, fire, wind, and void — the primal sources from which all creation flows. The work also explores the contrast between the world of visible phenomena, the world of matter, and the vast realm of energy that stretches unseen behind them both.
