Kinpusan — sovereign peak of the Oku-Chichibu massif. Drawing on the landscape of the celestial maiden Hagoromo and "Chiyo no Fukiage," this work was created to evoke the growth of a soul of light. Basking in sunlight, a celestial maiden (tennyo) wreathed in a white dragon soars in a spiraling ascent, melting the snow of the heavy, sealed mountains from their foothills upward. The age of Dwapara Yuga (an era in Hindu cosmology marking the transition from the material to the spiritual world) — when the material world reaches its furthest extreme and the shift toward the spiritual begins. We, as fragments of a greater being, walk the path of spiritual evolution through our own lived experience, nurturing our wisdom, ever growing. I sought to express the growth of the soul through the image of a celestial maiden ascending to higher dimensions. ~ All things are connected as one ~ May every living being know happiness.
