She who once walked through the dappled light stood still again — in that gap between mist and glow left behind in a place she could never forget. ◈ Artist's Note This piece began with an image: the spirit of a woman standing alone in a forest, head bowed, on the grounds of a ruined estate. She died young, yet could not bring herself to leave the home and land she loved so dearly. I chose not to show her face — keeping her as a silhouette so that each viewer may layer their own memories onto her form. The impression of nobility, of a figure in a gown, was something I shaped quietly through the outline that rises from the gaps in the light. The trees behind her are arranged as vertical bands of black, deepening the contrast between the mist-blurred passages and the sharper play of light and shadow. The palette is unified in a near-monochrome greyscale, with fine adjustments made throughout to preserve a sense of the otherworldly.
