"Ma" (間 — the pregnant pause, the space between) Draped in the robe of dusk, I am nothing but a shadow standing there A place where the lingering scent of days gone by and memories that will not fade overlap Neither the living "now," nor the "back then" that never came to be — a boat adrift in the space between No footsteps Only a long, deep sigh filling this room There is light beyond the window, yet what holds me here is a warmth I cannot forget and a thread called longing I am a soul walking the borderline Perhaps this silence itself is the "ma" that stretches on forever Until the day I dissolve into the wind and come to know that peace lies somewhere beyond this world ◈ Artist's Note A single room in an apartment where no one lives anymore. The walls bear the marks of moisture and passing years; the air hangs heavy and still. Standing there is the ghost of a woman who once called this place home. She lingers without a word. No movement, no voice. And yet her presence fills the room entirely. Light spills in through the window, but it carries none of the warmth of "now." What remains are memories that refuse to fade, and a thread called longing. What I sought to capture in this piece is what dwells in the space between the living "now" and the "back then" that never came to be — the figure of a soul walking through silence. Like dissolving into the wind, until the day she learns that peace belongs to some other world. Layering glitch and noise over the image, I left the outline of her shadow blurred and unresolved.
